Fundacion Botin, established in 1964 by Marcelino Botín Sanz de Sautuola and his spouse Carmen Yllera, was initially conceived to foster social advancement in Cantabria. Since September 2014, the foundation has been under the leadership of Javier Botín, who assumed the presidency following the passing of his father, Emilio Botín García de los Ríos, who had guided the organization for over two decades since 1993.
