Med ClimAccelerator

Med ClimAccelerator represents the Malta-based hub of the European Union's climate innovation initiative, operated by the Malta College of Arts, Science & Technology. Established in 2010, this initiative functions as part of the broader EIT Climate-KIC network, receiving primary funding from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, an EU body dedicated to fostering innovation across Europe. The organization's core mission centers on facilitating the global transition toward carbon neutrality and climate resilience through systematic transformation of industries, policies, and practices.

The Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) serves as EIT Climate-KIC's flagship program targeting Southern and Central Eastern European nations. This long-term initiative specifically focuses on strengthening innovation ecosystems within countries classified as moderate or modest innovators according to the EU Innovation Scoreboard. By connecting various stakeholders—including business accelerators, incubators, startups, scale-ups, SMEs, government agencies, and educational institutions—the program creates robust networks that enhance regional innovation capacity while addressing climate challenges.

Through its comprehensive approach, EIT Climate-KIC RIS delivers interconnected portfolios of programs spanning three critical domains: skills development and learning, entrepreneurship support, and innovation facilitation. These initiatives are strategically designed to accelerate decarbonization efforts, create sustainable employment opportunities, and develop new markets aligned with the 1.5°C climate target established in the Paris Agreement.
