Company description

ESA BIC Greece represents a strategic initiative within the Greek Ministry of Digital Governance's development plan for the national space industry. This program aims to nurture and strengthen Greece's space-related startup ecosystem by providing comprehensive incubation support to 25 selected companies over a five-year period. The incubation process is designed to develop both business capabilities and technological innovations until these startups can operate independently and continue their growth trajectory without external support. This initiative aligns with Greece's broader strategy to position itself within Europe's expanding space economy.

The ESA Business Incubation Centres operate with the dual mission of economic development and job creation across ESA Member States. They provide specialized incubation services to promising ventures that either leverage space technologies for non-space markets (spin-off applications) or introduce non-space innovations into the space sector (spin-in development). This approach maximizes the commercial potential of space-related technologies while fostering innovation across multiple sectors. Since its establishment in 2003, the ESA BIC network has demonstrated remarkable success, generating over 900 new enterprises across Europe with an impressive 85% survival rate and facilitating the creation of more than 140 startups annually.

Implementation of ESA BIC Greece has been entrusted to Corallia, a specialized unit within the Research Center Athena with extensive experience in cluster development and innovation management. This implementation involves a collaborative ecosystem of over 65 supporting organizations spanning the entire innovation value chain. The support network encompasses government ministries, public agencies, academic institutions, research centers, corporations, SMEs, financial institutions, industry associations, other ESA BICs, and non-profit organizations from both Greece and other ESA member states. This comprehensive support structure ensures incubatees receive multifaceted assistance including technical expertise, business mentoring, and funding opportunities.

Selected startups in the ESA BIC Greece program gain access to a wealth of resources including technical support, business development guidance, and potential funding opportunities. Participants benefit from specialized mentorship in space-related technologies, market access strategies, and intellectual property management. The program typically offers incubation periods tailored to each startup's development stage, with financial support packages that may include seed funding, access to specialized facilities, and connections to the broader European space ecosystem. This structured approach to incubation significantly enhances the probability of commercial success for participating ventures while strengthening Greece's position in the European space industry landscape.
